David Coleman

David Laurence Coleman of Calallen, Texas was called home to the Lord on January 1, 2023, at the age of 88. David was born in Cotulla, Texas on February 18, 1934. He was preceded in death by his parents, Beatrice and John E. Coleman; his brothers and sisters, John Everett Jr., Beth, Billy, Bobby, and Bebe. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Tracy; daughter, Sue (husband Jake); sons, Glenn (wife Terrie), and Kenny. His grandchildren are Christy, Jason (wife Amber), Cody (wife Cassidy), Brent (wife Stephanie) and Beau. He is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren.

David has lived in south Texas his entire life. He graduated from Cotulla High School and was a member of the Corp at Texas A & M University for several semesters. He worked in the oil field his entire career beginning as a rough neck in multiple oil fields across south Texas until becoming a tool hand with Baker Oil Tools in 1957. He continued his career with Baker for 55+ years moving up to salesman, branch manager and regional manager.

David was an avid fisherman, hunter, and golfer. When his sons were younger, he coached their Little League baseball teams and assisted with youth football teams. David and Tracy played golf in many local and out of state couple’s golf tournaments. David was a well-respected golfer and friend at River Hills Country Club.

Throughout the years, David always was a huge supporter in his wife and children’s lives. David and Tracy have always shared their homes with many well-loved dogs throughout their lives. You could often find one of the family dogs sharing his lounge chair during a short nap.

The family would like to thank his doctors and the staff of Devoted Health care for the wonderful way they took care of Dad in his last days at home.

A memorial service will be held for David on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at 10:30 am at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution might consider some David’s favorites, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, animal rescues, and the Alzheimer’s Association.
