Robstown

Colena “Mamaw” Roberta Squibb, 85, of Robstown, Texas passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at the home of Darlene Starry with her daughter Judy by her side.

Colena was born on September 29, 1935, in the Horse Creek Community of Greene County Tennessee to James Waitzell and Esther King Roberts.

Colena married the love of her life, Billy Ray Squibb on May 22, 1952, in Chuckey, Tennessee. Their loving relationship served as a beautiful example of the truest kind of love, spanning 69 years. Colena’s love for Billy dated back to 1946, where an 11-year-old girl wrote notes about how life would be when she and Billy were married

Colena and Billy moved to Clarksville, Texas in 1958 and later settled in Robstown, Texas in 1961. Colena worked alongside Billy as the bookkeeper for Bird Gin Co and Bird Flying Service. Owner, Julius F. Bird, supported Colena and her family and became more than an employer he became a special friend. Later, Colena was employed by State National Bank of Robstown. She enjoyed her time there and the many friendships she built. Charles Wilson and his family became one of those timeless friendships that has spanned generations. Following her time at the bank, she started working for Claude Birge at Robstown Machine Works again, alongside Billy. Colena also enjoyed volunteering, behind the scenes, at the annual Nueces County Junior Livestock Show.

Colena loved her family. She was a constant supporter of her children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren. From rodeos to swim meets, school plays, baseball games, cow shows, go-cart races and graduations, she was always there. Colena was always up for a good road trip and especially loved riding Moto Guzzi Motorcycles with Billy. They traveled the United States and shared precious memories together. Colena loved her sports. She was a dedicated NASCAR supporter for as long as any of us can remember. She was also an avid basketball fan. She loved watching the Tennessee Vols and the Spurs.

Even though she loved living in Texas, she always stayed close to her family in Tennessee. She and Billy made many trips each year. Whether on the back of a motorcycle or crammed in a packed car, she never turned down a trip.

Colena is survived by her daughters Judy Jordan, Sandy Hill and husband Bruce, and Vickie Loessin and husband Shorty; grandchildren, Amanda Lawrence and husband Scott, Cory Hill, Sarah deGanna and husband Josh, Sam Howze and wife Lora, Lisa Arrieta and husband Ralph, Matt Clemer, Scott Howze and wife Sheri, Abby Crawford and husband John, and Rachel Jordan; great grandchildren, Anthony Arrieta, Austin Arrieta, Brayden deGanna, Jacob deGanna, Tanner Lawrence, James Howze, Jane Lawrence, Cameron Crawford, Wesley Howze, Conor Bluemel, Colton Howze, Jaxon Howze and Luke Bluemel along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Billy Ray Squibb; parents, James & Esther Roberts, sister Patsy Ripley and husband Kyle, sister Caroline Roberts Roper and her son in law, John Jordan.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held at Agua Dulce Baptist Church Fellowship Hall; Agua Dulce, Texas from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Saturday, September 18, 2021. The family would like to invite you to come join and we celebrate the life of Colena.
