Claude Marshall Bradshaw Jr. went to be with the Lord on October 18th 2022 at age 90. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jim; and his wife of 62 years, Vernalyn.
Claude is survived by his brother, Gerald; daughters, Linda Carolyn Loyd (Randy), Fae Jean Faber (Marc) and Mary Kathryn Pennington (Chris); grandchildren, Robert Bevly (Amanda), Melinda Thompson, Alex Bevly (Dax), Michael Faber, Emily Faber and Chelsi Roach; and great granddaughter, Madeline Garza.
Claude was born on October 1st 1932 in San Diego, TX to Claude Marshall Bradshaw Sr. and Myrtle Wallington. He grew up in Freer and graduated from Freer High School in 1949. He worked in the oil field as floor hand, derrick man and fireman. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1952 and was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He worked as a flight engineer that flew doctors and research animals to many different places in the U.S. In June of 1956 he was introduced to his future wife, Vernalyn Awbrey, on a blind date. They were married on July 12th 1957. He went to Texas A&I University and graduated with a degree in chemistry. He got his master’s degree in school administration with a minor in mathematics in 1961. He began teaching at Mary Carroll High School in 1964 and taught chemistry and physics for 40 years. In 1967 he built his family home in Broadacres in the Calallen area where they raised their three daughters. He did so many different and interesting things throughout his life, such as gardening, raising bees, raising goats, building furniture and more. Claude and Vernalyn also enjoyed traveling to Colorado each summer where he liked to relax while fly fishing.
Visitation with the family will be on Monday, October 24th at 10:00am at Sawyer-George Funeral Home with funeral services being held at 1:00pm after the visitation with Pastor Rodney Appleby officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30pm in the Chamberlain Cemetery in Kingsville, TX.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Sunny Glen Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1373, San Benito, Texas 78586
