Charles M. “Porkey” Young, 83, of Kingsville, Texas passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014 at his home. He was born January 11, 1931 in Mirando City, Texas. He attended White Oak schools, graduated from H. M. King High School in Kingsville, Texas in 1949 and attended Texas A&I University in Kingsville. In Kingsville he owned and operated Mack’s Chicken Shack and Porkey Young’s Restaurant, was a member of the Kingsville City Council for two terms and was an avid Javelina Football fan. In Calallen he was a licensed insurance agent for Humana, was a former co-owner of Joy Driving School and was an active member of Calallen Baptist Church. Porkey was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, who led and served with dedication both in his church and in his everyday life. He sang in the choir, made the Sunday coffee, organized the church kitchen, and did anything else that exemplified his love to people. His Godly life was a true testament to God’s sustaining grace. Porkey was truly admired for his faithfulness and selflessness and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Watson Young, his mother, Myrtle Young Woods, and his siblings, James Young, Jr., Hugh Prentice Young, S. M. Young, and George Franklin Young. He is survived by his daughters, Lynda (Ronnie) Watson of Calallen, Texas and Charlotte “Bitsey” (Garry) Smith of Bishop, Texas; his sister, Betty Jo Adkins of Kilgore, Texas; his grandchildren, Andy (Shene’) Benton, Matt Benton, and Scott Benton all of Houston, Texas; great grandchildren, Bella Benton and Hayes Benton; extended family members, Shanna Rutledge, Shea Davis and Shalan Watson. Visitation will be from 2 P.M. until 8 P.M. with the family present from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. Tuesday, February 11, 2014 in Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 A.M. Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Calallen Baptist Church with Pastor Jack Willoughby and Pastor Justin Moss officiating. Graveside services with military honors will be conducted at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, February 12, 2014 in the Chamberlain Cemetery in Kingsville, Texas. Pallbearers will be Harold Blair, Bob Haley, Royce Allen, John Kenneth Jones, Kennith Thompson and Scott Vaughan. Those who wish may make contributions to Calallen Baptist Church Memorial Fund.
