Charles Whitlock

December 13, 1935 — September 14, 2014

Charles Lynn Whitlock, 78, entered his Heavenly home on Sunday, September 14, 2014. He was born December 13, 1935 in Arab, Alabama to Ira and Jewell Whitlock. His parents moved to Mercedes, Texas when he was a child and he graduated from Mercedes High School in 1954. He had a true passion for football and was a Tiger Varsity football player at the left guard position. He married his high school sweetheart Barbara Ann Estes in October of 1955 and then proudly accepted the calling of the US Army when drafted. He served two years from 1958-1960 and then was recalled during the Cuban crisis in 1961. Lynn worked for Hygeia and Halliburton before going to work for Celanese where he retired after 31 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Robstown for 40 years where he served as a Deacon and taught Sunday School. He was currently a member of Calallen Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon until his health prevented him from remaining active. Lynn never met a stranger and could talk the bark off of a tree. He always had a smile on his face and faced every situation with a calm disposition and ultimate trust in his Lord. He was an avid Calallen Wildcat football and baseball fan for almost 30 years missing games only recently upon his illness. He is preceded in death by his parents and mother and father-in-law,Lillian and Leonard Estes; sisters, Hiwease Riley and Faye Reynolds; and brother, Wayne Whitlock. In addition to his wife of 58 years, he is also survived by his only child, Shelly Lynn and son-in-law, Steven Floyd of Calallen; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Ellen and Joe Dean of Fairview, Texas. He’s also survived by a nephew, two nieces, several cousins and countless amazing friends. Special thanks to our Pastor Justin Moss and the entire Calallen Baptist family for your ministry and support through this journey. Thank you also to Dr. Kent Tompkins, the Spohn Hospice team and all the caregivers of Trisun River Ridge for the unbelievable support and care. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Calallen Baptist Church with Pastor Justin Moss officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Calallen Baptist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
