Charles Townsend

Charles “Charlie T” Townsend, 88, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020. He was born in a railroad box car in Victoria, Texas on July 17, 1932. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was deployed to Korea during the Korean War.

He was employed as a brakeman for Union Pacific Railroad for 37 years. Charlie was a referee for 37 years, and at halftime during basketball games he would stand at center court, shoot the ball and make the basket 75% of the time. He was an avid and awesome bowler and participated on several leagues. He was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys, the Texas Longhorns, the San Antonio Spurs and the Calallen Wildcats.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Minnie Townsend.

He is survived by his son, Jeffrey (Betty) Townsend; his daughter, Lori (Scott) Plant; several grandchildren including Colton Townsend; several great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Visitation with the family present will be from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 A.M. Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Willis Moore officiating. Graveside services with full military honors will be conducted at 1 P.M Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be James Rakowitz, Sr., James Rakowitz, Jr., Steve Shuttlesworth, Eric Stobbs, Randy Reed, Steve Campbell and Colton Townsend. Honorary pallbearers will be Union Pacific Railroad Retirees.

The family would like to give special thanks to our two little angels, Rome Rosalez and Becky Garcia, for their excellent care and love they gave to Charlie Townsend. You were a special part of his life and he truly loved you both.
