Charles August “Charlie” Petri, 88, of Odem, Texas, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2014. He was born March 29, 1926 in Rutledge, Texas to Arthur John and Ethel Magdaline Schmidt Petri. He graduated from Robstown High School, and Texas A & I University in Kingsville in 1951. Charlie was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and received the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. He retired from Suntide (Koch) Refinery and was a Commander of the Disabled American Veterans organization. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Cleta Mae Hale Petri; his daughter, Sandra Kay Dodd; his brother, Francis G. Petri; and his sister, Hazel Waller. He is survived by his children, Donna Sue (Kenny) Carlan of Mathis, Texas, Bobby Charles (Marji) Killion of Bonham, Texas, Judy C. (Johnny) Davenport of Woodsboro, Texas, Charles A. “Pete” (Cindy) Petri, Jr. of Bishop, Texas and Janet Lynn (Dick) Duncan of Corpus Christi, Texas; his brother, Arthur John Petri, Jr. of Corpus Christi, Texas; 15 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 2 P.M. until 7 P.M. with the family present from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 A.M. Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. Michele Lott officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Odem, Texas.
