Charles (Charlie) Ray Jones, Sr. was born in Jackson, Mississippi on August 29, 1942 to Howard Jones and Irma Kahler Jones. God chose to call him home on his 74th birthday Monday, August 29, 2016. Charles accepted Christ as his savior at the young age of 9 and he served the Lord at Trinity Baptist Church in Corpus Christi and First Baptist Church of Odem, Texas. He led the Royal Ambassadors for the young boys. He held many other positions in the church. He graduated from Mary Carroll High School in 1960 and attended Del Mar College and U.C.C. in Corpus Christi. After finishing school Charles went to work for P.G.P. Industries for 22 years. Charles was then hired as a Deputy Sheriff #605 for San Patricio County. He worked for the department until his retirement. Charles was a scout master for troop 73 in Calallen and was inducted into the order of the arrow in B.S.A. He had numerous interests and hobbies. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Howard Jones, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Ana Jones; daughters, Margaret (Steve) Jordan of Corpus Christi and Cheri (Brian) Ring of Sinton; sons, Charles Ray Jones, Jr. and Jeremie Jones of Sinton; grandchildren, Amanda (Daniel) Worden, Kim (Bryan) Willows, Jennifer Jones, Joshua Ring, Wesley (Sarah) Ring, Tyler Ring and Corey Ring; great granddaughters, Jordan and Hailey Willows and Kaylynn and Kiley Worden; his former wife and mother of his children, Peggy Lou Bagnall; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be conducted at 10 A.M. Thursday, September 1, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Odem. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Odem. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donation be made to the American Cancer Society.
