Charles Ray Johnson, Sr., age 83, died on July 20, 2010 following a short illness. He was born in Boynton, Oklahoma to Charles Emmett and Georgia Duncan Johnson. He joined the United States Marine Corps at age 14 and served in the South Pacific during World War II. After discharge, he began his long career in the oilfield, working with his father in Nowata, Oklahoma. He then moved with his new wife to Independence, Kansas where he attended college and worked for Stekoll Petroleum. He was transferred with that company to Corsicana, Texas and Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada prior to his move to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1964. He then began work in the well servicing business until 1988, when he established and was owner of Johnson Resources, a vacuum truck company. He was well known in the oil business and had a reputation of expertise, generosity and fairness. His family was always his greatest love and he will be missed by family, friends and business associates. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Frances Roberts Johnson; his children, Sue Johnson Prill, M.D. and husband James of Bristol, Tennessee, Charles R. “Chuck” Johnson, Jr. and his wife Sharon of Corpus Christi, Texas, Jack R. Johnson of Beeville, Texas, and Roni Johnson Bucey and husband Joel of Corpus Christi, Texas. Grandchildren include Tammie Johnson Alvarado, Charles R “Bubba” Johnson, III, Teri Kay Rathke, Allison Prill and Lane, Trace and Kara Bucey. Great-grandchildren include Daryn, Torie and Cason Rathke, and Shailynn, Charles R. IV and Jared Johnson. Other survivors include his sisters, Martha Belding, Nelda Liebig and Kathy Jackson; and in-laws, Freda and Ab Durham and Frank and Joyce Roberts. Memorial services will be conducted at 10 A.M. Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel in Calallen followed by a Celebration of Life at Johnson Resources, Inc. property. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles R. “Bubba” Johnson III, Joel Bucey, Jim Prill, Omar Villarreal, Herb Young, Jack Thompson, and all the employees of Johnson Resources. The family would like to thank the many employees, business associates and friends who have provided their support and prayers during this trying time.
