Brooks Johnson, 82, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at his home after a long illness. He was born November 10, 1927 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Otto M. and Varah M. Brooks Johnson. He served in the Merchant Marines. Brooks was a former resident of Pleasanton, Texas and Kenedy, Texas where he served as a Deacon in the Pleasanton Church of Christ and Kenedy Church of Christ. He was employed by Halliburton for 23 years and then for A&B Wireless for 8 years and was a rancher. He was a member of Arlington Heights Church of Christ in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Neva Joyce Johnson and two grandsons, Joshua Brooks Johnson and Chad Allen Staley. He is survived by his wife, Helen Johnson of Corpus Christi, Texas; his sons, Wayne (Belva) Johnson of Pleasanton, Texas, Bill (Billie) Johnson of Corpus Christi, Texas, Kenny (Twila) Johnson of Kingsville, Texas; his daughter, Sandra (Rick) Staley of Portland, Texas; his sisters, Kathryn Thornton of Highland Village, Texas, Myrtle Rice of Corpus Christi, Texas, Deletha Asencio of Corpus Christi, Texas and Janette (Al) Hallmark of Kenedy, Texas; his brother, Henry Johnson of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren, Nick Johnson, Jenna (Jeremy) Young, Kendra (Jimmy) Houston, Kayla Johnson, and Heather (Brandon) Townsend; three great grandchildren, Tyler and Kayliegh Johnson and Zoe Townsend; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family present will be from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. Thursday, May 27, 2010 at Arlington Heights Church of Christ at I-37 and Rand Morgan Road. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, May 28, 2010 at Arlington Heights Church of Christ with Tim Bennett officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens.
