Billy (Bill) Wright passed away peacefully on July 10, 2024 at the age of 90, after a battle with Dementia/Alzheimer’s. Some of his last moments were spent with his beloved wife, Peggy; son, Randy, and Daughter-in-law, Karen.
Billy was born on April 1st, 1934 to Earl Virgil Wright and Willie Queen (Jones) Wright in Robstown, Texas. He was a graduate of Robstown High School and received a full Scholarship to a prestigious University, which none of us can remember the name of at this time. But, he made the decision to stay home and help run the family farming business. You see farming was in his blood. He was so successful, due in part, to his devoted farm workers, Joe, Saul and Pedro Navarro. Also, without the help of his truckers, the Castro family, he wouldn’t have been able to successfully get his crops to market in a timely manner. He was quite the athlete in high school excelling in Football and track and field. He met the love of his life in Robstown and they became high school sweethearts; in fact they lived near each other in Robstown and met when they were children. He had many passions such as hunting, competitive shooting sports and floundering. He was a long term member of The Corpus Christi Pistol and Rifle Club. He actually qualified for the Olympic trials twice in his lifetime for clay target shooting. He also held numerous awards for his outstanding shooting skills in Trap, Skeet and the 5 stand. His other passion was farming and he enjoyed gathering with his farming buddies every morning at the “coffee shop” where they would share stories and discuss the crops and compare notes and most likely gossip just a bit. On the weekends, in the fall, it was hunting season and you could always find him and the family at the ranch (Belo Naumann ranch). During this time, he spent a bulk of his time training and teaching his grandkids how to shoot and hunt properly. Also, he spent hours in the deer stand with them and at the hunting camp. Many happy memories were made with his children, grandkids, and family and friends. He patiently taught his kids and grandkids, at an early age, about hunting, sighting a gun, hitting the target and how to handle a gun properly and gun safety. We could all tell stories about how that some of our happiest times were spent with Daddy Bill there.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Peggy Ann (Rosebraugh) Wright; His son, Randall Earl Wright and wife, Karen Kay Wright of Corpus Christi; their children, Ryan Wright and his wife, Angie Zavala Wright of Corpus Christi; Randa Kay Rios and husband, Darrell Rios of Robstown; Jeffrey Lee Wright of College Station; Dr. Coy Allen Wright and his wife, Tessa Wright and their three beautiful daughters, Emerson, Elliot, and Mae of College Station, the children of his deceased son, Jeff Wright. He is also survived by his older brother, Cecil Ray Wright and wife, Emery and her son, Isaac Rivera; niece, Molly Bates and many more extended family members.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Earl Virgil and Willie Queen Wright; a son, Billy E. Wright, Jr.; another son, Jeffrey Lee Wright; his sister, Betty Jane (Bates) Wright, a niece, Amy Bates Wilson; and a brother, Wayne Wright.
Billy lived a long and full life. Farming was his life, but his first love was his wife Peggy. He was a strong and smart man, and he loved and had a true passion for training and teaching other children, besides his grandkids, shooting skills in trap and skeet. He loved his church and his church family. He could be very strict and stubborn and a bit grumpy, but underneath it all he had a heart of gold.
We, the family, want to thank and express our gratitude the following caregivers: Teresa Alvarez, who was with him when he passed. She was able to reason with him and get him to do things like no one else could. She was a devoted and loving caregiver for him until his last days. We would also like to thank Najaly Castro (his best friend) who took excellent care of him when he was still at home. They laughed together and he told her all of his stories. She was kind and loving and patient with him always. We also want to thank the Home Health care nurses for their loving care, Tanya Davis and Gabby Garcia. Many thanks go out to The Premier in Alice, Texas and Altus Hospice for all their wonderful care for our loved one.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to your favorite charity in his honor or to the Nueces 4H trap and skeet or any other youth shooting sport organizations of your choice.
