Betty Bates

March 25, 1928 — March 26, 2018

Betty Jane Wright Bates went to her heavenly home on March 26, 2018, after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born in Robstown, Texas to Earl Virgil Wright and Willie Queen Jones on March 25, 1928. After graduating from Robstown High School she attended Texas College of Arts and Industries in Kingsville, Texas. While attending college, she developed a strong belief in education that she strongly instilled in her daughter. She married James L. “Buddy” Bates on March 11, 1946. Betty Jane was an excellent homemaker with her delicious cooking and excelling as a seamstress. If she wasn’t drinking coffee with her many Robstown friends, she was sitting in front of her sewing machine creating a new garment. In 1969 they moved to Houston due to Buddy’s career. They also had a home on Lake Corpus Christi where she loved to entertain, where many family members requested her scrumptious carrot cake. After Buddy’s retirement, they moved to Corpus Christi in 1998. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Buddy; her parents; a brother, Wayne Wright and a nephew, Jeffrey Lee Wright. Betty Jane is survived by her daughter, Molly Ann Bates; her granddaughter, Amy Bates Wilson; her great-grandson, James Logan Wilson; her brothers, Billy Earl (Peggy) Wright and Cecil Ray (Emery) Wright; her sisters-in-law, Tassy Whitson, Betty Everett of Tyler, Barbara (Hugh M.) Menking of Harker Heights and numerous nieces and nephews. Special heartfelt thanks and gratitude go to John and Nicole Flores, Debbie Johnston, Lucy Dominguez, Mandy Uballe and Serenity Grace Hospice Care for their loving care during Betty Jane’s illness. Cryptside services will be conducted on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at 3:00 P.M. at Robstown Memorial Park Mausoleum.
