Bert Canady received his final promotion to meet his Lord and Savior on March 20, 2016 in Corpus Christi, Texas at the age of 84. He was born on June 26, 1931 in Missouri to Rosa Valonie Tinker Canady and John S. Canady. He served in the United States Marines followed by a lifelong career with AT&T. In his younger years, Bert was an avid hunter and fisherman with many memories and fish tales told to the children and grandchildren. As time went on, he enjoyed the simple moments with friends and family like a home cooked meal around the table or a competitive game of cards. In his last few years, you could find Bert hand in hand with his loving wife, Dorothy. He was a very kind, compassionate man with a great sense of humor. He is preceded in death by his mother, Rosa Valonie Tinker Canady, his father, John S. Canady; his wife, Elizabeth Burroughs Canady; 10 siblings, Myrtle Canady Moore, Joseph Harrison “Ben” Canaday, Corb Canaday, Ed Cannady, Ethel Canady Sisco, Nora Canady Redford, Dora Canady Barton, Roy Cannady, Bates Canady, and Opal Canady Hill; his son, Derral Martin and a great granddaughter, Amya Elizabeth Hawley. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Canady of Corpus Christi, TX; his daughters, Sandra Ann Canady Hawley of Bedford, TX, Bonita Sue Canady Earley (Ronald, Jr.) of Portland, TX, Julie Ashby (Craig) of Odem, TX and Audrey Richard of Odem, TX; 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren due this summer. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Friday, March 25, 2016 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church of Odem, TX.
