Bennie Liska, 87, of Corpus Christi, Texas, a former longtime resident of Robstown, Texas, died at his home Friday morning, November 4, 2011. He was born January 24, 1924 on a farm outside of Runge, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. Louis Liska. He graduated from Runge High School, served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and after his military service, he attended Schreiner Institute on a football scholarship. He received his BA and MA from Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas in 1951, and was a 3 year letterman for the Javelina's from 1948-1950. He married Janelle Harper of Robstown, Texas on November 17, 1950 and is preceded in death by her on September 1, 2010. After teaching and coaching a year in Aransas Pass, he taught school in Robstown for 22 years and farmed until retiring in 2005. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Robstown. Bennie and Janelle enjoyed a marriage raising a family for almost 60 years. He is survived by his three children, Ben, Boyd and Caroline and her husband, John T. Thompson; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Liska and Janelle "Nell" Thompson; a great granddaughter, Madison all of Corpus Christi, Texas; a brother, Emil Liska of San Antonio, Texas; a multitude of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 P.M. Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. Stan Whites officiating. Burial will follow in Robstown Cemetery.
