Bennie Edward Houghton, 88 years old, went to be with the Lord on February 2nd 2018. He was born July 17, 1929 in Caddo, Texas, to Eugene and Ollie Houghton. He grew up in Hamlin where he met his wife, Joyce. After high school he served in the Army and after serving his country he lived in Flagstaff, Arizona and Odessa, Texas before moving to Corpus Christi in 1969 and establishing Quality Machine and Excel Pump & Machine Inc. He retired in 2016 to care for his wife. Bennie was involved in community activities such as The Optimist Club in Odessa, achieving a Life Member of Valley of El Paso, Shriners International and Hot Rod Club for the Shriners, coaching baseball, Nueces County Jr. Livestock Show, long time season ticket hold to Calallen Football and very involved with Grace United Methodist Church. He loved ranching, hunting, fishing, casinos, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Family and Faith exemplified his life. Bennie is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Joyce Dunn Houghton; a son, Randall (Gayle) Houghton; a sister, Virginia (Frank) Bell of New Mexico; 8 grandchildren, Kari, Krista, Kaycee and Kirby Heaton and Holly Houghton, Heather (Marty) Henderson, Heidi (Clint) Land and Randall Houghton, Jr.; 4 great-grandchildren, Hadyn, Madisyn, Kaitlyn and Daxton. He is also survived by sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pat and Kenneth Payne of Waxahachie; sister-in-law, Charlotte Houghton of Wisconsin; and many numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends he made during his life and business associates. Bennie was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Sonny Heaton; 2 brothers, Lawrence and Roy Houghton; and a sister-in-law, Grace. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 6th at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 7th at Grace United Methodist Church with entombment to follow at the Memorial Park Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Kirby Heaton, Randall Houghton, Jr., Kenneth Payne, Marty Henderson, Clint Land, and Hadyn McCarty. The family would like to give a special thank you to Estella Ramos for the care she has given to both, Bennie and Joyce, and a special thank you to all of Bennie's dove hunting buddies, the stories that will be handed down and the comradery that they all showed and a lifetime of friendship. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, American Cancer Association or your favorite charity.
