Augustine Carpenter

August 27, 1921 — December 27, 2016

Augustine Carpenter, 95, passed away Tuesday morning, December 27, 2016 in her home in Robstown, TX after a very long, difficult, and heartbreaking illness. Augustine was born August 27, 1921 in Gonzales, Texas to Clara and Alex Skrobarcek. Augustine was a very strong and opinionated young lady that instantly fell in love with Felton Carpenter and married July 25, 1942. Augie was never excited about having a lot of children and did make that known to Felton but because she loved her husband so much and was so selfless she agreed and gave him two beautiful girls and one boy. Augie was a wonderfully devoted wife and mother. Not only was she loyal and dedicated to her family but she also strived in the ever so difficult and changing working world for woman. Augustine was name Woman of the Year by Sparkling City Charter Chapter, American Business Women's Association. The selection was based on the annual progress the ABWA member had made in her chosen field, as well as her interests in education and community activities. This also made her a candidate for the national title, American Business Woman of the Year. This only being one of many accomplishments Augustine was awarded over the many blessed years of her life however, her true passion was sewing for others due to her creativity, either for profit or for non-profit. Her entire family was always so proud of her and looked to her as a wonderful example and true mentor to the family. She retired from civil service as a Budget Analyst with the Admiral Staff at NAS Corpus Christi. Augustine is preceded in death by her husband, Felton L. Carpenter and son, Ken Carpenter. She is survived by daughters, Sandra (Bob) Keys of Robstown and Phyllis (Sonny) Foy of Conroe, TX. Augustine leaves behind seven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. We would like to thank her granddaughter, Natalie Deal for being her caregiver for the last several years, allowing her to remain in her home. Also we thank the New Century Hospice care employees for their care of our mother making her last days as painless as possible. The viewing will be Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.
