Archie Rektorik was born March 19, 1926, in Robstown, Texas to Jaro and Agnes Rektorik. He attended school in Robstown and graduated in 1943. He volunteered to go into the U. S. Army in 1944 when he was only 18 years of age. Archie was in the battle of Okinawa when he received shrapnel wounds and was awarded the Purple Heart medal. He attained the rank of Technical Sergeant before being discharged in 1947. Archie married Alice Tousek in 1948. They resided in Robstown, Texas where they raised two daughters. Archie was active in St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church where he served as usher for many years. He was also a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus at St. John’s. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion, where he served as Commander at one time. He was employed with Vrana Construction Company for 41 years. Archie also farmed for many years and was self-employed. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and dancing. Archie is survived by his wife, Alice, of 65 years; his two daughters, Sharon Loesch of Oakdale, California and Cindy Shepperd of Eustis, Florida. He is also survived by four grandsons, Jeffrey Loesch of Union, Kentucky, Jason Loesch of Lake Jackson, Texas, Chad Kimball of California and Chris Shepperd, who lives with his Dad, Craig Shepperd in Corpus Christi, Texas. Archie has two great granddaughters, and two great grandsons. Other family members still surviving are Archie’s brother, Herbert Rektorik and his sister, Peggy Knesek. The Rosary will be recited at 7 P.M. Monday, February 10, 2014 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Robstown, Texas. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 A.M. Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church with Rev. Gerald Sheehan as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
