It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts, the Villarreal family announces the passing of their beloved Antonio (Tony)Treviño Villarreal, who, at the loving age of eighty-five, was called home to the eternal embrace of our Heavenly Father in Heaven on February 4, 2025. Tony’s earthly journey began on August 23, 1939, in the humble community of Robstown, Texas, where he was the loving son to his devoted parents, Antonio and Lydia Treviño Villarreal. Tony was a man of unwavering faith as a lifelong Catholic and a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Robstown. He was a beacon of light and faith to those around him. Tony’s life was one of patriotic service, devotion, and sacrifice, where he was a proud veteran (National Guard-2 yrs.) and the U. S. Marine Corps (10 years) who served overseas in Okinawa, and he exemplified courage and honor. He continued his dedication to service through a 9-year employment at Corn Products, 4-years at Calallen Realty, 20 years at GTE/Verizon and 4 years at Texas Boll Weevil while selflessly providing for his family.
Tony was a man of many passions, but also a man of few words. But it was those few words and his body language that would let you know his feelings or thoughts. Despite his many interests and life challenges he faced, his greatest joy came from spending time with his beloved family, who were the center of his universe. Tony and his brother Manuel were inseparable, both joining the U.S. Marines together, served together in several assignments, and could always be found enjoying each other’s company at local events and coffee shops wearing their Marine caps. As fate would have it, Manuel passed only 18 days before Tony, a sign of their determination and eternal love for each other to stay together—Semper Fi. To his family, Tony was not just a patriotic son, husband, father, brother, and grandfather; he was the steady anchor, the guiding light, the unwavering presence of love and wisdom.
As Tony ascends to his eternal home to be with our Heavenly Father in Heaven, he is joyfully reunited with his parents, Antonio Villarreal, and Lydia Treviño Villarreal; his U.S. Marine brother (Manuel); his cherished brother, Rogelio Villarreal (U.S. Navy); his dear sister, Josie Morris; and his brother-in-law, Thomas Morris. Their reunion in heaven is surely one of celebration and love, free from the bounds of earthly pain.
Tony leaves behind to mourn his loss yet celebrate his cherished memories that will be carried forth by his devoted wife (Margarita Garcia Villarreal) of 58 years, who was the love of his life, his steadfast partner that exemplified the real bonds of marriage—“until death do us part!”; his son, Martin-“Marty” (Candus) Villarreal, daughters Becky (James) Maddix, and Maricel-“Mari”(Eladio) Escovar, who will carry his legacy forward; his siblings,Teresa (Rumaldo Z.) Juárez, Jose Armando (Elvira) Villarreal, Juan Francisco (the late Maria Elena) Villarreal, Ester (the late Adan) Botello, Vilma Garza, Vicenta (Arnulfo) Martinez, Patricia (the late Gerhard) Zacharias, and Lilly Fanning, hold his memory close, as does his sister-in-law, Emilia (the late Rogelio Villarreal) Salinas, and countless nieces, nephews, and relatives. Tony’s presence will be missed especially by his grandchildren: Martin Villarreal Jr., Matthew Villarreal, Mason Villarreal, Emily Maddix, Melody Maddix, Samantha Maddix, and Mykah Villarreal, who brought immeasurable pride and joy to his life.
The Villarreal family invites loved ones and friends to honor and celebrate Tony’s extraordinary life, as a visitation will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM that same evening, at Sawyer-George Funeral Home, 12497 Leopard St., Corpus Christi, Tx. 78410. Funeral Services will take place on Friday, February 14 at 11:30 a.m. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest with full military honors at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas at 1:00 p.m. Following the services, the family invites you to a Celebration of Life at the VFW Post 3837 located at 12030 Leopard St., Corpus Christi, Tx. 78410.
Antonio Treviño Villarreal was a man of patriotic service, faith, love, and laughter, where his departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but his legacy of kindness, strength, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we find solace in the hope of eternal life, assured that we will one day be reunited in the presence of our Heavenly Father in Heaven. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Hope Gonzalez and the rest of the Del Cielo Hospice staff for the care and understanding of our beloved Tony in his final days.
