Alvin John Streadl, Jr., 78, of Alice, TX passed away Sunday, May 16, 2021. He was born August 3, 1942 in Goliad, Texas, started school in Agua Dulce, Texas and graduated from Williams Adams High School in Alice, Texas. Alvin then attended Southwest Texas State University. His father said he went in the front door, out the back door and only looked at the pictures in the books.
A cowboy at heart, he started his career path with Brown & Root in 1962 before working for Texaco in 1965. While working for Texaco he started taking care of registered Santa Gertrudis Cattle for Harvey Hans. For almost 30 years he was the ranch foreman for Lundell’s, Inc. He retired from Huisache Energy and continued to care for property and cattle.
Alvin was a champion of youth and served numerous years as an officer and director of the Alice Youth Rodeo Association, the Texas Youth Rodeo Association, the Texas High School Rodeo Association – Region 8 and the Jim Wells County Fair Association. He also served with the Jim Wells County Beef Improvement Association and the South Texas Santa Gertrudis Association.
Alvin is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin John Streadl, Sr. and Esther Pauline Watkins Streadl, and his sister, Marilyn O’Brien.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jeanette Streadl; his daughters, Lori Bradshaw (Val Stewart) of Mathis, Texas, Kim Streadl (Heath Gonzales) of Sandia, Texas and Jana (Chevy) Ford of Brackettville, Texas; his sister, Brenda (Jack) Sawyer of Bluntzer, Texas; his grandchildren, Logan Streadl, Wyatt Bradshaw, Brayden, Brynlee, Corben and Holden Ford; nieces and nephews, adopted kids and many, many friends.
Visitation with the family present will be from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. Friday, May 21, 2021 at the Morningside Drive Church of Christ, 1396 Morningside Drive, Alice, Texas 78332.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, May 22, 2021 in Morningside Drive Church of Christ in Alice, Texas with Steve Curnette officiating.
Friends are invited to attend a reception following the church funeral at Jim Wells County Fairgrounds, 3001 South Johnson Street, Alice, Texas 78332.
Burial will be a later date.
