Alton Lee “Monty” Montgomery, 82, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away Thursday, August 18, 2016. He was born March 25, 1934 in Westhoff, Texas. He retired from Ponder Fishing Tools as a part owner, after 57 years of service in the oil fields. He was a member of River Hills Baptist Church and was a Gideon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton Montgomery and Rosalie Guering Montgomery Elswick. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances; his son, Alton Lee Montgomery, Jr. and his wife Kenny; his daughter, Debra Montgomery; a foster daughter, Susan Elswick; grandchildren, John Jalufka, Jr. and his wife Jessica, Justin Julufka, Jake Jalufka and Julia Montgomery; a sister, Lena (Dale) Gooch; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Liz Eddy, Sam (Sheri) Horne, Robert (Geri) Horne and Homer (Paula) Horne; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family present will be from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. Monday, August 22, 2016 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 A.M. Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at River Hills Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Palms Memorial Gardens in Portland, Texas. Friends, if they wish, may send flowers or make contributions to River Hills Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Gideons. Pallbearers will be Morris Eddy, Jr., Dwayne Eddy, Gary Horne, Michael Horne, Danny Roggeman, Justin Jalufka, Jake Jalufka. Honorary Pallbearer will be John Jalufka, Jr.
