Althera Lee Stevens, 92, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2012. She was born November 26, 1919 in Star City, Arkansas to James Murrell Forbes and Maude Tally Forbes. She married Robert Mitchel Stevens on August 30, 1941 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and they moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, where they made their home. Althera was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church and was a member of the Cooper Class. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Flores Vick and Auvergne Weatherall, and her husband, Robert in 1979. She is survived by her sister, Bunny Gordon of Marble Falls, Texas; her children, Robyn (Bob) Barry of Hondo, Texas, Bob (Sandy) Stevens, Becky (Bryan) Turner and Jim Stevens of Corpus Christi, Texas; 5 grandchildren, Jeff, Steve and Doug Barry, Kelly Stevens DeLaMatyr and Kayli Turner McDaniel; six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 2 P.M. until 7 P.M. with the family present from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. Monday, November 19, 2012 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at First United Methodist Church, Corpus Christi, Texas, with The Rev. Greg Hackett officiating. The service will be held in the Chapel that faces Water Street. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the cause of your choice or First United Methodist Church of Corpus Christi.
