Alice Irene Gold Wood, 86, passed peacefully at home with her family on March 1, 2024. She was born July 13, 1937 in Violet, Texas to Hugo Henry Gold and Christine Ida Hoelscher Gold.
Alice attended Robstown High School and graduated from Incarnate Word Academy. She lived much of a long, happy life in Corpus Christi, Texas. This is also where she met and married her devoted husband Frank Barron 'Barry' Wood. She enjoyed her long career as a school bus driver in both Houston and Corpus Christi. When she and her husband retired, they moved to her childhood home on the Gold family farm in Violet, Texas. She loved caring for her garden and shared this passion with her sisters, children, and grandchildren. Alice also enjoyed decorating her home with unique touches and was always changing something in the house. Her family was her joy. She treasured Sunday dinners with her family and especially cherished her time with her grandchildren.
Alice is preceded in death by her beloved husband Barry; son, Frank Barron 'Chip' Wood Jr.; daughter, Jennifer Wood Vanderheiden; her parents, Hugo and Christine; sister, Elizabeth ‘Lizzie’ (Jesse) Kimmel; and brother, Hugo ‘Butch’ (Theresa) Gold.
She is survived by her daughters, Juliette Wood and Lucy (Brent) Balusek; daughter-in-law, Sharla (Cosby Wood) McClendon; son-in-law, David Vanderheiden; grandchildren, Christopher (Jennifer) Wood, Heather (Chris) Lopez, Noah Wood, Zachary Wood, Sydney Balusek, Noel (Russell) Bolle, Andrew Vanderheiden, Allie Balusek, Zelly Wood, Gregory (Grace) Vanderheiden, Bryce Balusek, and Rebecca Vanderheiden; as well as several great-grandchildren. Alice is also survived by her siblings, Bernadette ‘Bernie’ 'Dette' (Michael) O'Grady, Mary Christine 'Pete' (Jerry) English, John (Macie) Gold, and Walieta ‘Baby’ (Jim) Kimmel.
Visitation will be held Friday on 8 March 2024 at 5 PM with Rosary following at 7 PM at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. This is also where flowers can be sent if desired.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Violet, Texas on Saturday 9 March 2024 at 1 PM. The interment will immediately follow in the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church Cemetery.
