Agapito (Pete) Zamora Garcia 77 of Sandia, Texas passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday March 2nd, 2025.
He was born on October 3rd, 1947 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Cecilio and Esperanza Zamora Garcia. He attended Tuloso-Midway High School and joined the United States Marines Corps in 1967 where he served during the Vietnam War. During his service Agapito achieved the rank of Sergeant and was awarded two Purple Hearts for injuries sustained during combat. Forever a patriot and proud of his service, he was also a past Commander of American Legion Post 364 in Corpus Christi, Tx.
Agapito worked as a well-respected Educator for more than 40 years in and around various communities in South Texas. While he had many hobbies, including fishing, traveling and woodworking, teaching students and working with young people was unquestionably the passion of his life with many former students becoming lifelong friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cecilio and Esperanza Zamora Garcia; two sisters, Margarita McMullin and Rosalinda Dessert of Portland, Oregon; two brothers, Simon (Diana) Garcia and Francisco (Elisa) Garcia of Corpus Christi, Texas and one stepson, Michael Adam Wright of Hickory, NC.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 30 years, Gloria Anne Artlip-Garcia; a stepson, Richard Alan (Debera) Stamey of Wilmington, NC; four brothers, Joe Garcia and Benjamin (Velma) Garcia of Corpus Christi, Tx., Alfredo Garcia and Rafael (Bonnie) Garcia of Beaverton, Oregon; four sisters, Magdalena (Steve) Schlabach, Cristina (Oscar) Medellin, Julia Z. Garcia of Corpus Christi, Tx and Elizabeth (Jim) Binder of Canby, Oregon; six grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces, as well as extended family members in North Carolina.
A Visitation will be held on Monday, March 10, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Holy Rosary to be Recited at 7:00 pm at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at 9:00 am at Sawyer-George Funeral Home and the Committal Service will follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery at 11:00 am where Military Honors will be rendered.
